Where to start? In truth it will prove difficult in the confines of these paragraphs to truly reflect the massive opportunity and scope this role holds. All I can say is that if you feel the general aspects of the role hold appeal and your skill set matches the requirements, it may prove better to speak and I can walk you through the specifics and deeper scope.

The business itself is highly innovative and at the forefront of its market. It is, without doubt, high growth but equally has the backing and support of a large PLC which is deeply committed to the company, its growth and development. So not only does it encapsulate the excitement of a new business enterprise but it also has the underlying financial stability and extensive network that comes from a long-establish listed business. 

In the context of the company itself there is currently just the Head of Legal who is now looking for support to assist in the day to day commercial aspects of the business as well as materially changed the internal processes and stuctures to ensure compliance of its people and products within the range of regulatory frameworks that impact upon its activities. As a result someone joining will be playing a significant role in shaping the commercial functions of the business.

Equally to reflect the growth of the business, the legal team will also grow and so it is a great time to join in its infancy. Given the company has the backing of a large PLC that operates in a global market there is a deeper legal function with legal counsel around the world alongside patent and trademark attorneys. Whilst they provide insights and are at your disposal this role is standalone alongside the Head of Legal and your scope for progression is not hindered.

The incentives and scope for growth are huge.

At its heart is the day to day of dealing with commercial contracts including the likes of development, supply and licensing agreements. There are strong Intellectual Property elements to things but exposure to that area is secondary to the commercial contracts side.

In order to look to shape and grow the legal team the natural instinct is to look at a commercial solicitor (whether from within private practice or currently working in house) with around 3-4 years PQE but there is flexibility either side of that. At this stage it isn't possible to look at someone just qualified as there is a degree of being able to hit the ground running.

So, ideally you will be an existing commercial contracts lawyer with experience of a good range of commercial agreements. Alternatively someone with a depth of transactional intellectual property experience or corporate experience.
