The tide is certainly starting to shift for employment lawyers after several years in the wilderness and whilst things have not yet reached fever pitch, it is certainly showing encouraging signs of recovery as well as opportunity for those with good experience.

This role sits within one of Leed's preeminent teams and given their broad spectrum of coverage, the team has been fortunate to experience no appreciable decline in either size of work levels over the past few years.

The reason to look to recruit now is a combination of growth ambition as well as a recent departure to a role in-house. The current team structure also gives rise to a more narrow focus in terms of experience so as to ensure a proper balance is struck within the existing team framework.

The team undertake a full mix of contentious and non-contentious employment work with a respondent focus and largely the team can look to mould a role around someone's experience and appetite.

The team are very open, friendly, supportive and have been together for a number of years so there is a stable and cohesive team in place. 

In terms of what they are looking for, from a level perspective anyone from a March NQ up to around 3 years experience could fit in the current structure.

The team act for some impressive clients and the work is excellent so, not unsurprisingly, they are keen to see bright lawyers with a good level of experience and an appetite to be actively involved in business development. Instinctively a pure claimant background isn't an obvious fit but ultimately having recruited from that space previously they know that there is quality afoot within it and ultimately it will come down to the cultural fit and capability of the individual.
