Corporate Partner - Manchester

This leading national law firm is seeking to build on significant growth in recent years in Manchester with the addition of a Corporate partner for its Manchester office. 

This leading full service practice, has a strong reputation throughout the UK and its success has been augmented by continued growth across a number of practice areas during the pandemic. The firm is particularly focused on continuing to grow its Manchester offering and has spent significant time and resources in mapping out its broader growth strategy over the coming years. 

In Manchester, there is an existing small, but well-formed, corporate team with a focus on mid-market M&A with a good level of, on-site, junior support. There is no dissatisfaction with the current team or structure but rather a universal realisation that in order to expand their commercial operation it is a fairly natural consequence that their corporate practice must also grow.

How that is achieved and by reference to specific candidate backgrounds is still open to debate - underlying it all is a desire to attract people with ambition and who recognise the opportunity and advantages the firm can offer.

It is as likely that the role could be a head of department position as it is someone working alongside the existing partners - much of that will be determined by the ambition and background of a candidate.

Ultimately, no firm is going to shy away from an established partner with a significant following (whether with a team or without) and they are confident they have the base and means to support someone who is seeking a new challenge and welcome the opportunity to speak to anyone who would want to know more.

However, partner with significant following is not the singular parameter - established in the local market is invariably a must and a demonstrable history of winning work or developing relationships will feature but this could just as easily represent someone who is coming up through the ranks looking to take their first step into partnership (potentially frustrated by the lack of progress in their existing role).

They will be supported by a leadership team with a strong vision and solid plan for growth as a whole in Manchester over the medium and long term together with an excellent base on which the successful recruit can build.

But, who doesn't want a corporate partner capable of adding value to a firm? Not many, so why should this role be any different from the next?

There are many answers to that but most will sound exactly like one job advert to the next. The reality is that the management team are focussed and understand the need to set out their proposition and that means being open and direct about who they are, what they stand for and to demonstrate their commitment to the process.
