This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of information governance at a leading university.

You will lead the implementation of the University's Information Governance Framework, providing expert leadership and guidance on the effective, risk-based governance and management of information across the institution. This role is about more than just compliance; it's about fostering a culture of best practice and enabling the University to thrive in a data-rich environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and implement information governance policies, procedures, and training.
  • Oversee information rights requests (DSAR/FOI/EIR), privacy notices, and records of processing.
  • Manage data sharing, conduct data protection impact assessments, and monitor risk.
  • Oversee records management, retention, and security, including managing data breaches.
  • Provide expert advice and reports on information governance to the University Executive Team and committees.

What you’ll bring:
  • Qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister) with a strong understanding of the legal principles underpinning Data Protection (Essential).
  • Proven experience in leadership and management.
  • Extensive knowledge of information governance legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • A track record of providing specialist advice and delivering strategic objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.

  • Great Benefits:
    • Membership in the West Yorkshire Pension Fund (generous contributions!).
    • 38 days of annual leave entitlement.
    • Onsite Gym Facilities.
    • Car parking at Headingley Campus and free transport between campuses.
