Group Employment Legal Counsel - South Yorkshire
Hybrid working – 3 days in office, 2 days from home
2+ Years PQE Required
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Employment Lawyer to join an in-house legal team at a leading UK retail company. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing expert legal advice on a wide range of employment matters, collaborating closely with the People and Employee Relations teams to navigate complex legal landscapes and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert legal advice on various employment matters, including contracts, disciplinaries, grievances, family leave, redundancy, discrimination, and whistleblowing.

Work with the Employee Relations team to manage cases, ensuring effective resolution of workplace issues.

Draft and review employment contracts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices.

Develop and update employment policies and procedures to align with legal obligations and company values.

Manage Employment Tribunal claims from start to finish, including advocacy at preliminary hearings where appropriate.

Deliver training to the People team on employment law topics to ensure continued compliance and knowledge.

Advise on large-scale projects with employment law implications, including major consultations and restructures.

Keep the business informed of developments in employment law, providing timely updates on legislative changes.
Ideal Candidate:

A qualified solicitor with at least 2 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in employment law.

Strong expertise in employment law, with excellent research, drafting, and analytical skills.

A confident communicator who can simplify complex legal concepts into clear, practical advice.

A commercially-minded professional capable of balancing legal risk with business priorities.

Able to build strong working relationships across all levels of the business.

Proactive, organised, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Previous in-house experience is desirable but not essential.
