Northstone | Trafford City / Home | Circa 2 days per week (Mon – Thu) | Competitive
Northstone, part of the Peel Group, is more than a homebuilder. We’re changing residential landscapes for the better.
We think deeply about our homes, how people will live in them and how to lessen our impact on the planet. The areas surrounding our home are important to us too, that’s why we create inviting and inclusive communities that welcome people into a more neighbourly world.
We do things differently – pushing boundaries and working collaboratively with our partners. Everything we do is to break the mould and we do it for the right reasons.
Background
Since 2019, Northstone has gone from a blank sheet of paper to a team of 60, delivering around 350 homes a year across the North West, with big plans to grow over the years ahead. We've reached the point where we would like to bring governance and compliance properly in-house. Not a full-time role, but a meaningful one. Up to two days a week, Monday to Thursday, ideally spent working with our team in our Trafford City office.
The role
This is a newly created position. You'll be the first legal hire Northstone has made, and your primary focus will be on governance, compliance, and getting our internal processes properly documented and formalised. External panel firms handle site acquisition work.
In practice, this means:
Owning our governance and compliance framework; working with Peel Group's central legal and co-sec team to ensure Northstone's obligations are met and the right information is communicated.
Formalising and writing down our internal legal and compliance processes – things that have grown organically and now need structure.
Acting as our first point of contact on GDPR, as well as any litigious matters.
Advising on commercial contracts, NDAs, and procurement terms as needed.
Managing relationships with our external panel firms.
Sitting within the Finance team, reporting to our Finance Director
The person
You're likely a senior solicitor or head of legal with 8+ years’ PQE and a solid in-house background in general commercial and/or governance work. Experience in property or housebuilding is a bonus, but it's not the main thing.
More important is who you are. Northstone would like to find somebody grounded, collaborative, and pragmatic. Someone who spots a risk and then helps the team find a way around it. This role suits someone who wants a genuinely interesting remit without the grind of five days a week. If you want to own something meaningful and help shape how a fast-growing business manages its legal affairs, this is worth a conversation.
Do you want to be part of something a little bit special? We welcome new members of our team like they are part of the family.
